Vira Makoviy was born in Drachyntzi Village at Bukovina Region.
Now she is a student of the Institute of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. Vira participates in the Young Playwrights Project of London Royal Court Theatre.
Readings of her play "The Broken Circle" took place at festivals "Gogolfest" and "Week of Actual Play" in Kyiv and "Lyubimovka" in Moscow.
Vera’s play "Boona" was the winner of the "Week of Contemporary Plays" and was staged.
Vira worked as chief editor of such newspapers as "Culture and Life», «Molodist.TXT».
Brief annotations of the plays
Boona – a Bukovinian woman, from the family of priests, whose life is entirely subordinated to the traditions and customs. Her understanding of “how to live properly” she is trying to cultivate to everybody around and especially – to her granddaughter Orysia, that Boona has to raise yourself. Orysia is a girl of 19 years old and she is feeling herself oppressed by such a care and wants to run away to Kyiv.
But Orysia becomes pregnant, which is entirely unplanned for her. Under the pressure of her grandmother the girl is forced to give birth to her child. After giving birth the life of Orysia is done even more unbearable, and she faces a difficult choice.
In the play it is transferred the authentic coloring of the rural Bukovina, its peculiar rules of life and speech.

"THE BROKEN CIRCLE"
After the death of his wife, during the great financial and family crisis in the 90's, a father is forced to leave his three daughters and go to work to France, and the eldest sister is going to the United States.
Although being in France Victor was wandering, sometimes felt hungry, changed dozens of different places of work – but to his children each month he sent one thousand Euros – so that they could build a new house, because their old house had almost collapsed.
After 10 years of absence, on the anniversary of the death of his wife, the father comes back home and immediately goes to a new house, but there he finds just a bare field …
